IDE FLASH DISK MODULES
Quantum Digital’s solid-state Flash Disk Module with either a standard 44-Pin connector
Quantum Digital’s solid-state Flash Disk Module with either a standard 44-Pin connector or a standard 40-Pin connector. The module uses the standard IDE signals, common on IDE hard drives.
The module plugs directly into a standard IDE connector without need for a cable. This eliminates the installation confusion, the cost, and the potential failures commonly associated with interface cables.
The modules are available in vertical and horizontal plug-in.
OEM flash disk modules are the product of choice in applications requiring high reliability and high tolerance to shock, vibration, humidity, altitude, and temperature. Because there are no moving parts to service or maintain, flash disk modules are reliable alternatives to mechanical hard disk drives for high availability and mission critical applications.
While the inherent ruggedness and reliability of solid state storage relative to rotating hard drives is intuitive, new applications for OEM flash disk modules are emerging due to the low cost per usable megabyte. Most applications using embedded operating systems such as VxWorks™, Windows XP/embedded™, and Linux™ don’t have multi-gigabyte data storage requirements, and therefore a cost savings can be realized when using this robust media.

The standard USB 2.0 interface provides designers with a true plug-n-play storage device, allowing for short design cycles and fast time to market.
Quantum Digital selects the highest reliability Single Level Cell (SLC) Flash for its superior endurance. The flash management software that is embedded in the controller emulates a hard disk, enabling read/write operations that are identical to a standard, sector-based hard disk. Sophisticated wear leveling algorithms guarantee 2,000,000 Write/Erase Cycles, while automatic bad block management and a built-in ECC Engine guarantee the highest data reliability.
Based on the Reed-Solomon algorithm, the ECC engine can detect up to 5-byte errors and correct up to 4-byte errors per 512 blocks.
USB Flash Disk Module is available in standard and low profile horizontal type with fixed hole, standard 10 pins 2.54mm pin pitch USB female connector or low profile
10 pins 2.0mm pin pitch USB female connector, specifically suited for designs that have Z-height constraints. High performance, high reliability and low cost per MByte make the USB Flash Disk Module the product of choice in embedded applications, such as Gaming, POS Workstations, Networking Equipment and Industrial PCs.

Tailored for industrial applications that require high reliability and data throughput, it provides non-volatile, industrial grade solid-state storage in a thumb-drive package. In addition, laser-etched manufacturing information allows for lot traceability and complete info on the Bill of Materials.
The Industrial Grade UFD is available in an ESD rated enclosure (with LED light indicator) for applications that require NEBS Level 3 Quantum Digital’s U2, state-of-the-art, USB 2.0 flash memory controller is incorporated in the Industrial Grade UFD, providing high data integrity and endurance.
The flash management software that is embedded in the controller emulates a hard disk, enabling read/write operations that are identical to a standard, sector-based hard disk. Sophisticated wear leveling algorithms ensures greater flash endurance, while automatic bad block management and a built-in ECC Engine guarantee the highest data reliability. Based on the BCH error correct algorithm, the ECC engine can correct up to 6-bit errors per 512 bytes.compliancy. The ESD-rated enclosure has been tested for immunity from ESD for 8KV contact and 15KV air.

At the heart of each card, there is an advanced microcontroller that performs elaborate Flash management including 5-Bytes on-the-fly Error Detection and 4Bytes Correction (EDC/ECC); bad block management (BBM) and extensive wear leveling.
Quantum Digital selects the highest reliability Single Level Cell (SLC) Flash for its superior endurance. This combination allows achieving 2,000,000 logical program/erase cycles. The MMCplus has no moving parts inside. As such, it is made to withstand extreme shock and vibration. Quantum Digital manufacturing process and test methodology makes the card even more robust. In fact, to assure that the cards shipped meets the rigorous threshold set by the OEM customers, each card is extensively tested at Quantum Digital’s manufacturing facility to guarantee perfect functionality in any conditions. Quantum Digital provides rigorous bill of material control as an additional guarantee for the customer, ensuring long term product stability and availability. The MMCplus can be accessed through 2 interfaces. The card can operate in MMC mode or in SPI mode. While the MMC interface provides high performance with 1 bit, 4 bit, or 8 bit data transfer, the SPI mode allows easy integration in any type of application at lower performance.
